This is an unique study tour to three very different parts of China, in the company of Chinese students, with hands-on leadership by experienced American and Chinese bilingual staff. The study tour will focus on Chinese society, history and culture: a mix of lectures and site visits in Beijing, Hong Kong, and Macau. Chinese and American university students will also have the opportunity to learn from each other throughout this entire study tour. To the extent possible, we will arrange for double room accommodations, with Chinese and American students sharing a room, in order to facilitate cross-cultural communication and learning from each other.

Student’s passport needs to be valid during the travel period.  Also, it should be valid for 6 months beyond the end of the trip.  In addition, students are responsible for obtaining all necessary visas and other travel documents.  Holders of US passports are permitted to stay 90 days in the Hong Kong and Macau Special Administrative Regions as tourists without a visa.  However, US passport holders traveling to Mainland China must secure a visa, which normally can be obtained from the Chinese Embassy in Washington DC, or from a Chinese Consulate elsewhere in the United States.  Our partner in Beijing (The Beijing Center for Chinese Studies) will issue invitation letters to assist students when they apply for their visa.

Thanks to the support of Ford Foundation, the overall expenses for you to join the study tour will be greatly reduced. If you are selected to the program, your cost will be as follows:

  • Program Fee: US$373
  • You are responsible for obtaining your own air transportation (a) to Macau and (b) from Beijing back to the US/Macau.
