Hong Kong Students on Study Tours in the USA 2011

The HKAC organized four two-week study tours in the US and Europe in summer 2011 for student delegations from HK and Macau universities.  Each program focuses on an important issue in American life or transnational public policy.  HKAC works with partners in American cities to arrange briefings and opportunities for experiential learning of these issues.        

 

United College of CUHK in Washington DC  

Twenty students received scholarships fromUnitedCollegeto participate in aWashingtonDCseminar for two weeks in June 2011 on the theme of the American economy and the formulation of national policy to mitigate the recession and stimulate growth after the crash of 2008.

 

American Studies Program at HKU Summer City Study Tour 

The HKAC assisted HKU in organizing a two-week tour of northeastern American cities.  They visitedWashingtonDC,Philadelphia,New YorkandBostonin July 2011 to study the founding and evolution of these cities.

 

California: Where America Meets the Pacific Rim

The HKAC organized visits toSan FranciscoandLos Angelesin June 2011 for a delegation of 15 students from theUniversityofMacau.  Fulbright coordinators in these cities organized visits to many Asian ethnic communities and historicalplaces in two of American’s major cities on thePacific Rim.

 

The Scandinavian Welfare State

The HKAC assisted United College of CUHK to organize a two-week study tour in August 2011 toDenmarkandSweden.  Twenty students participated in this program centered onCopenhagenwith briefings and site visits to many organizations that implement the cradle-to-grave social services that are the hallmark of Nordic countries.  They explored the relationship between welfare and productivity among workers and profitability of companies operating in this high-tax, high-wage business environment.
